What happens if I arrive later in the day and the clinic is already full?

At Palmerston Medicare Urgent Care Clinic, we aim to see everyone who comes in during opening hours. Sometimes, though, we get very busy, and the needs of people seeking help means we won't get to see everyone before we close. This can be earlier than 6:30 pm, which is when we typically see the later person needing to be seen.  When this happens, we might need to stop booking people before our usual last appointment time. This helps ensure that everyone already waiting receives the care they need.  It depends on your needs, and the doctors and Nurses make that decision together. If this happens, our team will advise you on suitable options that may be available to you.

How will I know if the clinic is already full?

Our reception team keeps track of how busy we are. If the clinic is full and you are unlikely to be seen before we close, they will let you know when you arrive. We understand this can be upsetting and we always do our best to get as many people seen on the day as possible.

What can I do if the clinic can’t see me before closing time?

If we can't see you before we close, you have other options:

➡ Some clinics nearby stay open later and can help with your needs.

➡ A call to HealthDirect. This is a free service that offers medical advice over the phone, 24 hours a day, and nurses can advise you on the next steps to take or connect you with an online GP.

➡ In an emergency, if your condition gets worse or you think it could be serious, call 000 or go straight to the emergency department at the nearest hospital.

Can I visit the clinic for regular check-ups and Medical Certificates?

No, the clinic is for urgent care only. For regular check-ups, chronic disease management, and preventive care, and general medical certificates you should see your regular GP.

What should I do in case of a life-threatening emergency?

For emergencies, call 000 or go to the nearest hospital emergency department immediately.

Where is the clinic located?

The clinic is located at 3 Gurd Street, Farrar, NT, at the rear of Palmerston GP Super Clinic.

Can I get follow-up care at the clinic?

No, the clinic does not provide follow-up care for the same condition. Follow-up should be arranged with your regular GP.

Does the clinic provide prescriptions?

The clinic provides prescriptions for urgent care needs but does not offer repeat prescriptions or prescriptions for controlled substances (S8).

Can the clinic provide medical certificates?

Yes, medical certificates may be issued, but ONLY for urgent conditions treated during your visit to the clinic. If a general medical certificate is required and the reason for your visit, you will not be issued with a medical certificate. Please go and visit your usual GP or book online with an available provider.

Who will I see at the clinic?

The clinic is staffed by experienced doctors and nurses trained to provide urgent care for a wide range of health issues.

Can children be treated at the clinic?

Yes, the clinic treats children for minor illnesses and injuries that require urgent attention.

How does the clinic support the local community?
